  • 07/04/15: The written exam for the minor subject students will be replaced by an oral exam on the 10th of April. The participants were informed via email about the details. For any further enquiries, please contact Tobias Stockinger.
  • 16/03/15: The date for the retry exam has been fixed. It takes place on April 10 2015 at 16:00h. Further details.
  • 03/03/15: The post-exam review takes place on March 12 2015. In case you want to review your exam, please sign up for an appointment through this Doodle. Your appointment will not be confirmed; the Doodle registration is enough.
  • 02/03/15: The exam has been graded and the results have been published through UniWorX. We are going to announce a date and time for the post-exam review and the retry exam soon on this page.
  • 25/11/14: The date for the final exam has been fixed. It takes place on 16/02/2015. Further details.
  • 22/10/14: Attention, students attending for Minor Subject studies: Lectures of Oct 30 and Nov 06 are not relevant for examination!
  • 07/10/14: Due to requests from the audience, the lecture will be given in English language. Since the majority of students are native speakers of German, tutorials will be in German mainly. For the written test (Klausur), answering in German will be allowed, the language for the questions is still to be decided.
  • 07/10/14: The lecture can be offered in German or English lecture; please contact Prof. Hußmann or Dr. De Luca in case you want to attend, but do not speak German.
  • 07/10/14: First lecture will be on Oct 09, first tutorial session will be on Oct 13.

Contents

The lecture discusses multimedia services which are realized through data networks (online). Knowledge about data networks is introduced as far as necessary for understanding the lecture, for details students are referred to other lectures on computer networks. The lecture is structured into the following areas:

  • Web technologies for interactive multimedia: Server-side interactivity with PHP and Java, asynchronous interactivity in the Web (Ajax), mashups of Web sites
  • Content-oriented base technologies: Further technologies required for storing, transferring and processing of multimedia data in the net, including security issues, metadata standards and rights managament
  • Multimedia distribution services: e.g. WebRadio, WebTV, electronic books and corresponding base technologies
  • Multimedia services for individual communication: e.g. Video and multimedia conferencing technology

The lecture course is suitable for:

  • Students of Media Informatics (Master) or Informatics (Master) being well grounded in topics of Media Informatics
  • Students of Media Informatics as a minor field of study (60 ECTS) - compulsory course in the fifth term;
