About me
I studied computer science at RWTH Aachen University and specialized in Human-Computer Interaction at the media computing group. I first worked there as student assistent and got hooked by the research questions concerning interaction between humans and computers. In the context of my master thesis, I worked with my colleagues on the SLAP widgets. The SLAP widgets are transparent tangible controllers for multi-touch tables that allow precise control and dynamic relabeling due to their transparent material. I enjoyed working on research questions, exploring technical solutions, and evaluating our ideas with users. Our paper got accepted at one of the top conferences in our field (CHI 2009) and I was invited to Boston to talk about our work.
At the CHI conference, I met Wendy Mackay who invited me to join her research group in Paris (Universite Paris Sud). I got accepted for a founding of INRIA (French Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automation) for 3 years for my PhD program. In december 2012, I defended my PhD under the supervision of Wendy Mackay and Stephane Huot.
During my PhD, I worked in a multi-surface environment in Paris-Saclay. Specifically, we worked on interaction techniques for the exploration of large datasets by scientists (astrophysicists, biologists, etc.) In my PhD thesis, I propose a morphological approach to describe and systematically compare alternate interaction techniques. The approach lacks predictive power, which I explore in future work.
