Target audience
The Master's program in Media Informatics is a consecutive course of studies that builds on a Bachelor's program in Media Informatics. Admission requirement is a first professional university degree or an equivalent degree from Germany or abroad in media informatics, computer science or a related subject. In addition, an aptitude assessment is carried out, which is regulated in a separate statute and described below.
Application Procedure
Application Deadlines
Application is possible for the summer and winter semester. Documents must be submitted by January 15 (for the following summer semester) or July 15 (for the coming winter semester) at the latest.
Necessary Documents
In order to register for the Master's program, various documents must be submitted in accordance with the Statutes for the Aptitude Assessment.
- (Certified or digitally verifiable) copy of the diploma of the first degree (if not yet available, please make sure you have the current certificate of achievement)
- Application letter (in German or English)
- Short tabular curriculum vitae (CV)
- In case of choosing an application subject: Proof of sufficient basic knowledge from the bachelor studies in the chosen application subject. No special proof is required for a Bachelor's degree with the corresponding application subject; the certificate is sufficient.
- If applicable, proof of other examination results, further education measures, or practice-relevant activities
Please note: The application is made exclusively online via the EFV application portal. The documents can be uploaded there as PDF files. Application folders will not be accepted, whether submitted by mail or handed in personally at the institute.
Selection Procedure
The purpose of this procedure is to determine whether, in addition to the knowledge proven by the acquisition of the first degree, the suitability for the special qualitative requirements of the master's program in Media Informatics is present. These requirements include logical-analytical and system-oriented thinking, the ability to carry out independent scientific work, willingness and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, sufficient basic knowledge of computer science from the first degree in mathematical fundamentals and in the areas of multimedia technologies, computer graphics, human-machine interaction, programming languages, operating systems, computer networks, databases and software engineering as well as adequate knowledge of the English language. Based on the submitted documents, a selection committee will decide whether a successful participation in the Master's program can be expected.
Notification of acceptance
After the examination of the documents, all applicants will be notified, even rejected applicants will be informed accordingly. Accepted applicants will receive a notification of acceptance, which they can use to enroll in the Master's program. They must download this official notification letter immediately from the portal, as it will only be available there for a limited time.
Accepted, what now?
Students already enrolled at LMU who want to change e.g. from the Bachelor into the master, must present themselves personally at the student office of the university (SG 2) to the fixed dates, see the following Website under the point "Fachwechsel/Studiengangwechsel/Umschreibung".
External students submit the necessary documents to the Student Office by mail. Information can be found on the following website.
This is usually possible until the end of April (summer semester) or the end of October (winter semester). An important prerequisite for this is the electronic registration of your Bachelor's degree and your Master's admission (you do not need the paper Bachelor's degree certificate). In addition, the last examination (usually the deadline for submission of the bachelor thesis or the date of the disputation) must be in the previous semester. For example, it is not possible to transfer to the Master's program for the winter semester if the deadline for submission of the Bachelor's thesis is October. However, it is still possible to attend courses in the Master's program and then transfer to the following semester. An already accepted application for the Master’s program does not expire.
