Research Interests
My research investigates how human behavior, particularly eye tracking and brain activity (EEG), can reveal how people process and comprehend data visualizations. I aim to extract implicit feedback from visualization interaction to capture aspects such as comprehension, familiarity, and agreement that cannot be measured directly. The long-term goal is to inform the design of adaptive systems that respond to users' needs and prior knowledge. I address questions such as:- How long does a user need to comprehend a given visualization, and can this be predicted from visualization features?
- Is a viewer's agreement or disagreement with a depicted data relationship reflected in their gaze behavior?
- Can we infer from eye movements or brain activity whether a visualization presents novel or already familiar information to the user?
- Can the difficulty of a visualization task be classified from gaze behavior, for instance to inform the design of standardized assessments or training materials?
- Can a user's level of expertise be inferred from their viewing behavior, enabling systems to adapt interventions such as guidance or simplification to individual needs?
