User Privacy Journey in VR

BT/MT

Status open
Student open
Advisor Verena Winterhalter
Professor Prof. Dr. Florian Alt

Task

Aufgabenstellung / Topic

Building on a previous student thesis, you implement parts of a ''user privacy journey'' in VR and evaluate your implementation with a user study where you compare it to a baseline (e.g. current privacy interfaces for VR devices). Results from the study could cover e.g. usability of your implemented interface, perceived control of users about the data collection, how well they feel informed about the collection; potentially also measure their actual understanding.
Focus: Implementation.

You will:

  • Review literature on privacy interfaces for VR
  • Design and implement a VR application that covers a part of the user privacy journey
  • Conduct a user study to evaluate your prototype
  • Analyze your prototype, e.g. in regards to usability, privacy awareness of users, privacy understanding, perceived control,...
  • Summarize findings in a thesis and (optionally) contribute to a research publication
  • Present your work in the Disputationsseminar of Prof. Dr. Florian Alt

You need:

  • Interest in usable privacy, HCI and VR environments
  • Programming skills, ideally previous experience with Unity
  • Interest to conduct user studies with careful selection of methods to capture user privacy behavior
