TrackLine: Refining Touch-to-Track Interaction for Camera Motion Control on Mobile Devices In Printed Proceedings of the 13th European Conference on Visual Media Production (CVMP'16), London, United Kingdom, December 12 - 13, 2016. (bib) |
Moving the camera aesthetically is complex, even for professionals. In recent years new motion control systems were developed, but their development is mostly technology-driven and often fails to thoroughly integrate the user perspective. We present the findings of observing and interviewing camera operators on 3 production sites. The insights were used to develop a user interface addressing performance issues with precision in human control. The developed TrackLine concept refines the touch-to-track technique for computer-vision based camera motion control. Separating the selection from the tracking process, TrackLine leaves the operator in control and leads to more precise results, a reduced number of trials and is considered as easy to use and learn by users. For determining the quality of control, we adapted the standard deviation of lateral position measurement used in the automotive domain to a task native to cinematographers and report on insights of this evaluation methodology. |
