| In this paper we present a gesture-based user authentication mechanism for handheld mobile devices. For authentication the user does not enter a password or PIN, but rather moves the device in an individual specific manner. The mobile device measures the movement using a built-in 3D-accelerometer and a 3D- gyroscope. Behavioral biometric features based upon movement and especially hand gestures are considered useful. With a user study we studied possible ways to increase the authentication performance and evaluated the perceived usability. In addition, the performance of several approaches to forgery is studied. |
