Augmented collaborative board games

bachelor thesis

Status in progress

Task

You meet five friends in a bar and you all sit around the table. Each one of you has a mobile device, most of them featuring a connection to the internet. And yet you reach for a board game for entertainment. How about mixing up the physical and virtual world into an augmented board game: your phone is a token within your game. Your phone can know the relative position of phones with respect to each other and it can dynamically load new content. I am interested in exploring the design space of possible collaborative game designs on mobile phones. The end of this project will be an organised bar game event and hopefully a usable Android app in the App Store... and of course ... fun!

your work consists in ...
  • literature review of related work
  • design, implementation and evaluation of a collaborative game on mobile devices
  • writing a thesis and presenting your results to an audience
  • (optional) co-writing a research paper for a prestigious international conference
you need...
  • strong communication skills in english
  • a creative and open mind
  • to be strong in Android and Web programming

Keywords
