Early Take-Over Preparation in Stereoscopic 3D In Adjunct Proceedings of the 10th International ACM Conference on Automotive User Interfaces and Interactive Vehicular Applications (AutomotiveUI '18) (bib) |
Advances in vehicle automation and the resulting change of the interior of cars lead to new challenges for user interface and interior concepts. Augmented reality is a promising solution for the emerging interior design needs due to its diverse opportunities for user interaction and presenting information. However, there is a lack of understanding regarding the problem space of the new field. To address this insufficient knowledge, we derive a comprehensive use case set, consisting of 92 examples, from a literature review and focus groups. We develop a design space for floating 3D AR in-car applications and demonstrate the usefulness of this design space using two examples. Our work opens new research opportunities and contributes to the development of AR applications in the automotive context. This work supports and empowers designers and engineers by providing a systematic approach to integrating new AR interfaces in a vehicle apart from windshields and windows. |
